A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from American Airlines with a targeted offer to achieve elite status for a fraction of the normal requirements. Most airlines, including AA, have made it exponentially more difficult to achieve status by no longer allowing customers to purchase low fares and perform mileage runs. Now customers have to reach a spending threshold in addition to the amount of miles flown. With this targeted offer, AA is slashing their requirements by as much as 50%-70%!
Elite status level | EQMs needed | EQDs needed
Gold | 7,000 | $1,000 | ||
Platinum | 12,500 | $2,000
Platinum Pro | 20,000 | $3,000
Executive Platinum | 35,000 | $4,000 |
If you received this targeted offer and haven’t signed up, today is LAST DAY you can:
To me, only the Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum offers are worth the trouble. So if you think you can fly 20k or 35k miles and spend $3k or $4k on flights between now and May 25, 2018, you’ll receive status through January 2019. Check your email and sign up today!
I got this offer, Its’ just not worth it to me. I’ll just stick with United since they are the dominant carrier in my town. Several years ago I would have jumped at this but now Platinum Pro and Exec Platinum have been devalued so much, both upgrades and ability to earn and spend miles.
I couldn’t agree more. What’s your experience in getting upgrades as a United elite?
I was Plat United last year and granted, I fly out of Tulsa, I got upgraded 90% of the time, even while connecting through Chicago and Houston. I guess it depends on the usual time of the day and week.
