The United MileagePlus Explorer card typically offers a public sign up offer of 30,000 points when you spend $3,000 in 3 months (I don’t like all of those 3’s). That offer was bumped up to 50,000 points when you spend $3k in 3 months with an additional 5,000 points for adding an authorized user.
However, when I recently signed into my United MileagePlus account, I noticed that I was targeted with a 70,000 point offer with an additional 5k for adding an authorized user! These offers do not come with the annual fee of $95 waived the first year, but for 75k points, a $50 statement credit (already knocking the fee down to $45), free checked backs, 2 lounge passes, priority boarding, and better award flight availability, I’d say it’s well worth the cost. But be mindful that this does fall under Chase’s 5/24 restrictions…so if you’ve had 5 or more new credit cards in the last 2 years, you won’t be eligible for this card. It’s also important to note that you won’t be eligible for the lucrative sign up bonus if you currently have this card or have had it in the past 24 months.
Note: In order to find the 70k offer with the $50 statement credit, I had to log into my United account and search for a flight. I then see the small banner on the top right corner with the offer and when you click on it, it does advertise the $50 statement credit:
You’ll know you are receiving the $50 statement credit if you see this verbiage in the offer:
You can try your luck to see if you’re targeted for the 75k offer here: https://www.theexplorercard.com/70k3k
I spotted this exciting offer as well. Where are you noticing the $50 statement credit, however? I can’t find mention to that perk in any of the fine print.
Thanks
Hi Ben – That’s a great point, I first noticed the $50 statement credit offer in addition to the 70k offer when I logged into my United account and searched for a flight. I then see the small banner on the top right corner with the offer and when you click on it, it does advertise the $50 statement credit. I’ll post a photo for your reference.
The screenshots were very help! Thanks so much for the quick response. Well done.
I checked it out and United’s web page says:
“This product is available to you if you do not have this card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months.”
So if you’re already a Chase/United card holder it seems you can’t double up and get extra miles.
