From July 1 through July 31, 2014, American Airlines AAdvantage and Starwood Preferred Guest programs are teaming up to offer a transfer bonus when you transfer points from your SPG account to your AAdvantage account. Normally, when you make a 20,000 point transfer from SPG to any of their partner airlines, you receive a free 5,000 point bonus (one of the many great perks SPG has to offer). For a limited time, you can transfer 20,000 SPG points to your AAdvantage account and receive a 10,000 point bonus for a total of 30,000 points!

You can transfer up to 60,000 SPG points to receive the maximum bonus of 90,000 AAdvantage points per day. There is no minimum point transfer requirement for Platinum members. Gold members have a minimum point transfer of 1,500 Starpoints and Preferred members have a minimum point transfer of 2,500.

American Airlines’ AAdvantage program still remains one of the most valuable award programs with low redemption rates and off-peak saver awards. Their current award chart will likely devalue in 2015 when they officially merge with US Airways. So this is definitely a great deal worth considering if you’re looking to book your next award ticket with American Airlines and need to top off your account or fly to Europe this summer for as little as 40,000 SPG points.

Some great steals include:

  • North America to Hong Kong one way on Cathay Pacific’s fantastic business or first class product for 55,000 or 67,500 points respectively.
  • Take “AAdvantage” (pun intended) of off-peak saver awards to fly to Europe one way in coach for 20,000 points, to Japan/South Korea one way for 25,000 points, South America for 20,000 points, and Hawaii for 17,500 points (use BA Avios to fly for as little as 12,500 points from the west coast).
